Alan Parry Presents to NCBA Construction Law Section
Alan Parry was one of the presenters last week at the 2024 Winter Program for the North Carolina Bar Association’s Construction Law Section. The all-day program was entitled “The New Basics: Reexamination of Key Concepts for Construction Attorneys.”
Alan was a panelist for a session of the program entitled “Insurance Issues in Construction Law,” along with co-panelists Pete Marino and Ed Smith. Pete co-chairs the Real Estate Development and Construction Law groups at Smith Anderson, and Ed is an Executive Vice President at SIA Group, one of the largest privately owned full-service insurance agencies in the country.
The panel discussed an array of hot insurance-related topics impacting the construction industry, including issues arising under builder’s risk policies, contractor’s commercial general liability policies, professional liability insurance policies for design professionals, pollution liability policies, cyber liability policies, and more.
Alan has significant experience representing policyholders seeking to recover insurance proceeds due to them under a wide variety of individual and business policies, including commercial disputes in a range of industries and pursuit of claims seeking extra-contractual damages where appropriate. Outside of litigation, he also regularly counsels firm clients about insurance that may be available to cover risks in their business and personal lives.
Our firm also regularly handles both complex and more straightforward construction disputes in a variety of forums, representing owners, developers, contractors, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and sureties. Neil Riemann heads up our construction law practice and, in addition to his construction litigation work, also counsels industry clients outside of litigation on front-end contracts and navigating the variety of legal issues that can arise during the course of construction projects.
Like others in the firm, Alan has long been actively involved in the North Carolina Bar Association, volunteering in a number of capacities. He is a former Chair of the NCBA Litigation Section and the current Communications Chair of the NCBA Dispute Resolution Section. Alan is frequently asked to author articles and speak to legal and business groups regarding litigation, dispute resolution, and insurance coverage issues.
